During a recent episode of American Idol, host Katy Perry was moved to tears after a contestant named Trey Louis shared his story of surviving a school shooting. The 21-year-old Texan performed a rendition of Whiskey Myers’ ‘Stone’ for judges Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan, but before that, he revealed that he was a survivor of the Santa Fe school shooting in 2018. Perry emotionally stated that the country had failed them and that Louis should be singing because he loves music, not because he had to go through the tragedy. Richie added that the situation has become the norm and that it’s time for change. The emotional audition has since gone viral.
Travis Scott paid tribute to the survivors of the Santa Fe school shooting during a Houston Rockets basketball game. The tragic incident, which claimed the lives of 10 people and left many more injured, took place when gunman Dimitrios Pagourtzis opened fire at Santa Fe High School. During the Rockets game against the Golden State Warriors, team owner Tilman Fertitta provided a brief speech, introducing Travis Scott and handing him the microphone. The Rapper then addressed the seniors at Santa Fe High School, the officers, and the principals, stating that they were the strongest people on Earth and thanking them for being heroes for everyone. Kelly Clarkson also called for gun control following the shooting, imploring people to make a change and protect children attending schools, churches, movie theaters, and clubs. She demanded that action be taken to prevent tragedies like this one from happening again.
