Victor Wembanyama, the highly touted French basketball player, made his Summer League debut in Las Vegas on Friday in front of an electric, sold-out crowd at the Thomas Mack Center. Though he only scored nine points, grabbed eight rebounds, and blocked five shots, his NBA career got off to a slow start. He shot just 2-of-13 from the field, which is equivalent to 15%, leading to the San Antonio Spurs’ 76-68 win over the Charlotte Hornets. Despite this disappointing performance, Wembanyama remained optimistic and stated that he would improve next time. The Spurs selected Wembanyama with the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft last month, making him the first French player to receive such an honor. In the French LNB Pro A league, he was named MVP and led the league in points, rebounds, and blocks while also leading his team to the Finals.
Victor Wembanyama, the highly anticipated basketball player, made his debut at the Summer League in Las Vegas. However, prior to the game, an incident occurred when a member of his security team confronted Britney Spears who was trying to get Wembanyama’s attention at the Aria Hotel. No charges were filed as it was found that Spears accidentally hit herself in the face. During the game, Wembanyama missed his first few shots but still made impressive plays on both ends of the court. He finally got a shot to fall late in the game and drew a foul to convert a four-point play. While some may have expected more from his debut, it’s important to remember that he’s only played in one game and has time to adjust to the league.
